Dr. Jos Bijman is Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Sciences (Business Management & Organisation) of Wageningen University in the Netherlands. He is an expert on cooperatives and producer organisations (POs) in agrifood value chains. His research focusses on organisational issues (such as internal governance; member commitment; board-management relationship), as well as the sustainability, resilience and inclusiveness of cooperatives and POs. Specific research projects deal with quality improvement in value chains, contract arrangements between farmers and their customers, and cooperatives as hybrid organisations.
Dr. Susanne Neubert, agricultural economist and environmental engineer with a regional specialisation in Africa, has been heading the Centre for Rural Development (SLE) at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin since 2012. As a director, she oversees strategic development of the SLE in education, training, research and consultancy, also securing and supervising SLE overseas projects. Previously to SLE, she worked at various institutions, including Gesamthochschule Kassel, Berlin Social Science Center, German Development Institute (DIE). At the latter, she did research for 12 years as a senior researcher in the field of Development and Environmental Politics. The thematic focus of this research work and her teaching was rural development, poverty alleviation, water resource management, virtual water trade and adaptation to climate change.
