The IfG and its support society extend their heartfelt congratulations to their member, Prof. Dr. Franz-Theo Gottwald, on being awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

On February 26, 2024, Bavaria’s Minister of Environment and Consumer Protection, Thorsten Glauber, presented Prof. Dr. Franz-Theo Gottwald with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany is a special recognition for extraordinary social engagement and the highest honor awarded by the Federal Republic for services to the common good. The award is bestowed by the Federal President.

In his remarks during the presentation, Minister Glauber emphasized: “The Order of Merit is given to people who today strengthen the foundation of our coexistence, so that we can rely on it tomorrow as well. People with a strong moral compass who actively work for the common good—people like Prof. Dr. Franz-Theo Gottwald, who has dedicated himself in an outstanding manner to the challenges in environmental, animal, and consumer protection for decades.”

As Chairman of the Schweisfurth Foundation (from 1988 to 2020), as well as an honorary professor and member of the Institute for Cooperative Studies at Humboldt University in Berlin, Prof. Dr. Franz-Theo Gottwald is committed to science, consulting, and communication for an ecological, economic, and just agriculture and food industry. His concern is a harmonious coexistence of economic and social interests, a good life in which work and technology are brought into harmony with nature. To this end, Prof. Dr. Franz-Theo Gottwald works professionally and voluntarily in a variety of organizations.
